Casentino is a small valley, surrounded by mountains from where the Arno river starts. Casentino is rich with medieval castles, breathtaking sights and millennial forests, and it was a place of exile for the poet Dante Alighieri. We offer you a trekking with donkeys in the National Park of Casentino Forests and in the millennial forests surrounding Camaldoli’s Monastery. Our tour will be an approach to the park’s protected areas and the very rich wildlife.

The first walk is easy and it will bring you to Romena castle – a fort located in the municipality of Pratovecchio, it is located on top of a hill at 621 meters above sea level and it overlooks Casentino valley and the village of Pieve. Dinner and overnight in local B&B or country farm.

Today you will enter in the National parkof Casentino forests to admire the park’s broadleaf and coniferous forests. You will end the walk at Rifugio in Asqua surrounded by the forests; this is a place with a high concentration of deer, wolf, roe deer and other wildlife. Dinner and overnight at Rifugio Asqua.

Today you will leave the donkeys and you will visit one of the two important religious sites of Italy: the Hermitage and the Monastery of Camaldoli, embedded in hectares and hectares of silver fir forests, we will discover how ideas and religious precepts can create one of the most beautiful forests in Italy. Rifugio Asqua - Valagnesi

Today you will walk in the direction of Valagnesi – a small, charming mountain village built entirely of “serene” stone and surrounded by flocks of sheep, and from which you can enjoy a picturesque view over the valley. Dinner and overnight at local country farm.

This is the longest walk of your trekking, but it is almost entirely downhill towards the Arno river. You will return to the donkey stables where your trekking adventure ends.
