Day 0. Arrival in Quito PM (transfer to Hotel near airport)



Day 2

Day 1. Acclimatization day. Full-day visit to Historic Center of Quito, Mitad del Mundo Monument .
Quito City Tour and Mitad del Mundo Buenos días from Quito! The Ecuadorean capital is located on the slopes of Pichincha volcano, and blends into the Andean landscape. On this day, your guide will pick you up from the hotel after a delicious breakfast and you are going to enjoy: Mitad del Mundo. As the name indicates, the Middle of the World is where the Equatorial Line divides the northern and southern hemispheres and where the Geodesic Mission measured the Earth. Here you will learn and experiment with different phenomena such as the Coriolis effect and the gravitational law. You will also have the chance to step on the northern and southern hemispheres of the World and learn about the history and culture of this beautiful country. After spending a few hours in the morning at the Middle of the World, we'll head to Casa Agave for lunch and an exciting “Agave Experience & Tasting Tour”. In the afternoon, we will head to the historic center and we will embark in Quito's historic downtown, declared a World Heritage by the UNESCO. It is the best-preserved, least-altered historic center in Latin America! Until the Spanish conquest (1532), the territory of Quito was part of the Great Inca Empire, the Tahuantinsuyu. The city of San Francisco de Quito is founded on the ruins of the northern capital of this empire. The very occupation of the site is much earlier from the Quitu- Caras, an ancient tribe (500 a.c). Day 3

Day 2. Rumiñahui Volcano horse ride and Horse handling techniques.
You will be picked up by our guide and transported from La Palma Polo Hotel to the Hacienda El Porvenir (at 3600 mts - 11,808 ft). The drive takes approximately 1H30. At the Hacienda you will meet a local guide or chagra. After a welcoming drink, we start riding towards the slopes of the extinct volcano of Rumiñahui following exclusive Hacienda paths. As we travel across majestic Andean panoramas, we will see herds of wild bulls, birds and other wildlife. We will eventually arrive near the rocky peaks of Rumiñahui where one can see 12 more volcanoes on a clear day. Return to the Hacienda. After lunch, check-in (3PM) and rest during the afternoon. You may want to go for a self-guided trail to explore the area. Approximate riding time: 2H30 hours. Dinner. Overnight stay at Hacienda El Porvenir. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 4

Day 3. Cotopaxi National Park to Hacienda El Tambo ride.
After breakfast, we set off from Hacienda El Porvenir towards Hacienda El Tambo located on the eastern mountain range. The ride takes 6 to 7 hours and covers roughly 43 km. With the colossal Cotopaxi looming over our trails, we will eventually visit the Pucará del Salitre, an ancient Inca fortress. The ride takes us through a wide variety of landscapes such as mountain rivers and small lakes. Pack lunch is included during the trip. When we finally reach the farmhouse of El Tambo, we will be rewarded with a traditional dinner and a warm fire. (Breakfast, Packed lunch, Dinner).

Day 5

Day 4. Horse pack expedition towards Hacienda El Porvenir.
After enjoying breakfast, we will ride out early in the morning, heading back to civilization. Following the course of the River Tambo towards the base of Cotopaxi, we take the high route used by the locals and ride towards Chirimachai. We cross the Curipugyo Canyon (“place of gold” in Quichua), where we can see clear evidence of past volcanic eruptions. Pack lunch is included during the trip. On the way back to Hacienda El Porvenir, we once again cross Cotopaxi National Park on a spectacular, panoramic route. We will reach Hacienda El Porvenir for lunch, dinner and lodging. Day 6

Day 5. Chusigmachai ride / or rest day.
After days filled with adventure, today is dedicated to rest and relaxation at the Apu Mountain Spa. We can unwind amidst its soothing amenities, and for those seeking more leisurely pursuits, there are optional cooking classes available. We conclude this rejuvenating day with a delightful dinner of our choosing, accompanied by a bottle of wine. Overnight stay at Hacienda El Porvenir. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Day 7

Day 6. Chusigmachai ride / return to Quito.
We will set off for one last ride in the morning, heading towards Hacienda El Porvenir. En route, amidst the majestic Andean panoramas, we'll encounter herds of wild bulls, various bird species, and other wildlife. Upon reaching the vicinity of the rocky peaks of Rumiñahui, on a clear day, one can admire 12 additional volcanoes. Our journey will include a stop at Chusigmachai, also known as the Owl Refuge, before returning to Hacienda El Porvenir to dismount our horses and prepare for our journey back to Quito. A packed lunch is provided for the trip. (Breakfast, Packed lunch)
