Wild Sicily, 3 days tour through woodlands and megalithic sites
This is a wonderful three days trail that will allow you to discover one of the most beautiful landscapes, amazing woodlands, charming meadows, stunning river valleys and wild area of this marvelous island on horseback. Your trail takes you over ancient paths and impressive forest with magnificent scenery.
Pace and Experienced Required: These rides are for intermediate riders and above. You need to be able to ride at all places for long hours, comfortable with covering a variety of different terrain.

Itinerary
Alcantara Valley – Malabotta forest – Agrimusco megalithic site – Montalbano.
Approximate riding time: 7 hours

Today your ride will begin in the spectacular Valley of Alcantara, through enchanting meadows and amazing woodland until you will reach the eastern propensity of the Nebrodi mountain, the impressive forest “Malabotta”, surrounded by marvelous ancient oak and beech forest and under the shadow you will enjoy your pic nic, before you will ride on to the Agrimusco the so called”sicilian Stonehange”, following the megaliths with suggestive forms. During your ride admire the beautiful view and in good weather up to the Aeolian Islands.
By early evening you will arrive at your accomodation in Montalbano, where you will appreciate a delicious dinner made from local products.
Montalbano – Floresta – Monte Colla.
Approximate riding time: 6 hours

After breakfast you will ride through the historic village of Monatlbano up to the ancient castle, once served as a summer residence for Federico II d’Aragona. After you outpace the woodland which is dominated by chestnut and nut trees you will reach the so called „Tholos” – small, circulair, stone buildings until we will ride up to Sicily highest town, called Floresta, located 1274m above sea level.
After your picnic you continue through impressive paths where you perhaps can admire the wild herd of horse with black coat known as „cavalli San Fratellani” You continue through beautiful landscapes of beech, maple and oak trees, before you reach your accommodation in Monte Colla, located in an isolated area at a hight 1400 m.
Gole di Alcantara gorge – Alcantara Valley.
Approximate riding time: 7 hours

After breakfast you will ride towards S. Domenica di Vittoria, a traditional village on the border of the three parks, Etna, Nebrodi and Peloritans. You will reach Mojo Alkantara, famous for its “eccentric crater”, which lava flow has followed the course of the river and modelled the walls in the Alcatara Gorge. After your pic nic you will continue through ancient paths bordered by lava stones and vineyards and you will reach the small Alcantara gorge.
On your way back you will visit an ancient sacred place “Byzantine Cuba”. A short photo stop before you return to the starting point of the trekking.
